Timeline

Openoox in context

Dates and milestones below are drawn from contemporary press, founder interviews, and business publications. Where sources disagree (for example on founding credits), both accounts are noted.

Before 2014

Origin story

According to 01net (June 2014), Julien Danjon developed a personalized start page while providing in-home tech support, simplifying web access for beginners. He later partnered with serial entrepreneur Denys Chalumeau, known for SeLoger.com and related ventures.

Mid–2014

Media visibility

01net describes Openoox reinventing the browser homepage with social and visual bookmark influences. WebLife published an interview with Danjon on cross-device responsive design and planned mobile apps. FrenchWeb interviewed Chalumeau in October 2014.

Late 2014

Public opening

Journal du Net reported a broader public opening with onboarding via a “Genius” assistant recommending sites by interest. Maddyness published a dual interview with Chalumeau and Danjon on international rollout (French and English, more languages planned).

November 2014

Company formation

Capital Finance (2015) states Openoox was founded in November 2014—useful for aligning funding timelines even if public beta predates formal incorporation in some accounts.

2015

Scale signals & team

December 2015 reporting cites beta usage in roughly 150 countries and more than 300,000 saved favorites (Capital Finance). ITespresso names Lorenzo Nuccio as co-founder alongside Danjon. LinkedIn profiles describe Nuccio as CMO from April 2015 to May 2017.

December 2015

€1 million funding

Capital Finance and ITespresso document a €1M capital increase with Marc Simoncini, Pierre Kosciusko-Morizet, and other investors. Capital Finance notes Chalumeau stepping back from operational duties while remaining an investor.

Early 2016 (planned)

CES Las Vegas launch

Multiple December 2015 articles state Openoox intended to launch an official new version at CES in Las Vegas. This archive has not verified independent post-CES product reviews at scale; treat launch details as contemporaneous plans.

2016–2017

Monetization discussions

Capital Finance mentions advertising potentially from 2017 and a future institutional round. Journal du Net (2014) and JaimeLesStartups interviews reference sponsored “Oox,” freemium tiers, and B2B coupon models as ideas under study—not confirmed revenue programs.

Post-2017

Discontinuation

JaimeLesStartups lists the startup as seemingly inactive. Third-party directories (SaaSHub, etc.) label Openoox discontinued. Browser extension listings were updated in years after the core service era; they do not prove ongoing operation of openoox.com itself. Current status could not be independently verified beyond these secondary signals.
